Taking Care of Your Retainer

Keeping the retainers either in your mouth or case will avoid loss or breakage that would lead to extra expense. Brushing the retainer with warm water and dishwashing liquid or occasionally toothpaste and soaking it in mouthwash will keep it fresh. Never place your retainer in hot water, as it may become distorted and require replacement. NEVER USE any sort of denture cleaner on retainers with metal wires. Use with clear or all plastic retainers is ok. Beware of putting your retainer in your pocket where it might become broken. Also, avoid leaving it out where pets can find it or where it may become lost. If your retainer becomes lost or broken, please phone the office right away for an appointment for replacement or repair. Although there may be a charge for this, it is a relatively inexpensive way to protect the investment you have made in your orthodontic care.
